SmartLipo MPX Premieres in Houston

Fat removal and skin tightening has never been easier for Houstonians.
SmartLipo is generally regarded as the gold standard in laser lipo for its ability to not only effectively melt fat before it is aspirated, but also its ability to tighten skin. Dr. Mark Schusterman of Museum District Aesthetic Plastic Surgery is the first in the Houston area to offer SmartLipo MPX, one of the most advanced SmartLipo machines available. Dr. Schusterman says, "When we’re really trying to tighten the skin... I really want to use some of the lasers to improve those areas, and get the best skin tightening that I can." SmartLipo MPX uses two separate wavelengths to target and melt the fat cells within the body and tighten the skin. The 1064nm and 1320nm wavelengths both do different jobs and work better in combination than alone. Traditional liposuction can remove fat, but SmartLipo MPX offers added benefits. "The regular liposuction can get under the dermis and stimulate it, but it’s not as effective as the heat. The heat really helps," says Dr. Schusterman. "That’s the take-home message." Another benefit is the ability to perform the procedure under local anesthetic, which can often avoid the extra expense of a surgery center. Says Dr. Schusterman,, "You can do traditional liposuction in the office, but because you have to use so much physical energy, it’s a lot more painful to the patient. With the SmartLipo... the laser does all the work, so you’re not really jamming the cannula in as hard as you would if you had traditional lipo, and that makes it more comfortable for the patient."
