My first bikini wax... seven years overdue
I started shaving about 7 years ago, when I was 22, pretty much just out of college. At first I only wanted to be a little neater, a little cleaner... i was with someone once who said something about it and I got self conscious. That was the first time I ever considered changing what I naturally had going on down there.
It was great, at first, smooth and sensitive! But hair grows back fast and it isn't a comfortable process. Then over time, hair started growing in funny directions and not always in a consistent way. I didn't know what to do. I knew that waxing was going to have to happen but I was scared of the pain. I didn't know what it was going to look like. I didn't even want to let it grow out long enough to be waxed.
So I sucked it up and made an appointment, on a referral from a friend who's been getting waxed for years and years. Her esthetician, Gennet Kassa, at Figaro Salon and Spa in River Oaks is literally the ultimate expert at waxing. She was an esthetician before we even knew what estheticians were. Knowing one of my friends has been going to her for over eight years made me decide that's where I wanted to go, and I didn't regret it for a second.
So how was it? First of all, I was told to wear a thong, so all I had to do was slide it to the side a few times. I never once felt naked and it only really hurt a few times, but everyone I know says it gets easier every time. Because it was my first time, we didn't take "everything" away. I'm glad we decided to go gradually, because even though it’s tolerable pain, there is a point where enough is enough and you want it to be over.
I'm going back for #2 this week and actually looking forward to it. I am sure it will be easier. This time we're taking it all away, brazilian style.
What a relief to be headed in the right direction. I saw a quote from a medspa industry source this morning that completely validated my decision:
